The 17th annual Friends of the Poor® Walk to support the work and ministry of the Evansville area Society of St. Vincent de Paul is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Evansville State Hospital Grounds. The event will be held rain or shine beginning at 9:00 AM with registration open at 8:00 that morning. Participants in the walk receive a T-shirt and shopping tote with promotional items.
Walkers and donors can designate their financial gifts to a particular parish conference or to the Crisis Fund. The Evansville District is comprised of eighteen parish conferences in Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties, along with St. James Conference and Sts. Peter and Paul Conference in Gibson County. Funds raised benefit those facing financial struggles, typically for such things as homelessness prevention, which include water and utility payments. The Evansville District also operates a food pantry for those facing food insecurity, and a thrift store for those in need to obtain clothing, furniture and household items.
Last year, Vincentians assisted 13,000 of their neighbors in need with over $650,000. Nearly 29,000 individuals received a four-day supply of food, with eligibility for food assistance every 30 days. Hundreds more received clothing and other items from our thrift store.
Walkers can register at the event on September 28 or can register and donate ahead of time online at https://svdpevansville.org/walk-for-the-poor/.
