The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a world-wide Catholic lay organization founded in Paris, France in 1833 to address the Great Commandment: Love of God and Love of Neighbor.
Mission Statement: A network of friends, inspired by Gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationship with and service to people in need.
Identity Statement: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering, in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.
As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group and economic level.
Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings, and adherence to a basic Rule.
Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because in them, VINCENTANS SEE THE FACE OF CHRIST.
The District of Evansville of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Inc. is comprised of the geographical territory boundary in southwestern Indiana of Posey, Vanderburgh, and Warrick Counties and the southern half of Gibson County. Within the District of Evansville are eighteen parish-based conferences and one Young Adult conference. The District of Evansville also operates a Food Pantry and Thrift Store to serve those in need and it facilitates cohorts of “Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’ by World” to encourage and develop systemic change for individuals and the community as a whole.
